Art

Art has the role in education of helping children to become like themselves instead of more like everyone else' Sydney Gurewwitz Clemens

At Les Landes, we believe that art, craft and design play a vital role in developing the whole child. We aim to engage, inspire and challenge pupils through a rich and inclusive curriculum that introduces them to a broad range of materials, techniques and the work of diverse artists, craftspeople and designers. We are committed to providing all children with access to quality art experiences.

Our curriculum encourages children to experiment, explore, take risks, invent and create with confidence. We value both the final piece and the often ‘messy’ creative process, understanding that through art, children build resilience, express themselves and enhance their emotional wellbeing. Our focus on sketchbooks supports this process: pupils are encouraged to use them as spaces to record, explore, try out ideas, reflect and evaluate their work, fostering deeper thinking and artistic growth over time.

We celebrate both 2D and 3D forms of art, ensuring children develop a wide range of practical skills while exploring different media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, textiles, printing and digital art. Through involvement in whole-school art projects, community collaborations and events such as the Eisteddfod, pupils take pride in sharing their creativity beyond the classroom, reinforcing the real-world value of their artistic voice.

Ultimately, we want every child at Les Landes to develop a lifelong, positive relationship with art – one that is joyful, empowering, and uniquely their own.
