School Collection Pilot (Feb 23rd – April 1st)
Please make sure you understand the expectations for the change. If you have someone else collecting your child, you must ensure they understand the system, too.
All children who are collected by car will be collected from the drop off zone as a drive-by
Parents can queue from 2.50pm in Rue De La Porte (from Café Ouen) or Rue Du Nord and will wait at the crossroads at St George’s Church until 3pm
No cars will park and parents will remain in their cars
Rue de Sud will remain clear as an emergency route and parents are asked not to approach from this direction
At 3pm, Mr Hill will facilitate a filter in turn into Rue Des Cosnets and towards the gate
Staff will call the children from the playground and help them into cars. Children will be required to do up their own seat belts.
A temporary road sign will be placed by the Honorary Police outside Ville Vautier at 2.50pm preventing cars from coming to the school from that direction
Children walking home independently continue to do so at 3pm.
Parents walking to collect children (without a car) are asked to use the main gate.
The side gate will no longer be used.
Children cycling can continue to do so and the road should be safer with lines of slow moving traffic, without cars parking, pulling out, doors opening etc.
For the period of the pilot, the uniform shed will not be available at 3pm
If you are collecting another child, school must have this information by 2.15pm latest
By 3.15pm all children should have been collected.
The plan will not change if it is raining, so all children will need a waterproof coat on wet days
We will share the pilot plan with residents and we hope to have their support, given the volume of complaints we receive about parking, directly and indirectly.
The pilot is supported by CYPES, The Parish of St Ouen and the Honorary Police.
This will be a trial and there will, inevitably, be some issues as we go along. At Easter we will review it.
World Book Day 5th March
UNCRC Article # 29 & 31
We will be celebrating this day in a number of ways this year. We wanted to let you know in advance that children have the option of dressing as a book character and we have some suggestions here:
We will also be hosting a free book swap for every class. Please bear this in mind as we will be asking for donations nearer the time.
'Early Bird' Junior Triathlon entry
This is a firm fixture in our school calendar, raising money for Blood Cancer UK (Jersey). This year the date is Saturday 6th June and there is a reduced 'early bird' entry fee until the end of February. The event is open to all children from Y2 to Y6.
We are receiving support from Jersey Sport for kickboxing, cricket and rugby and we are also continuing with Sports Bug.
Greeters
You may have noticed Y6 children on the gate in the mornings. These children have volunteered their time to greet everyone as they arrive, making sure everyone feels welcome and strengthening the sense of belonging everyone feels. It has been lovely to see the warm way in which children have been greeting them; a wave, a high five, a hug. If you pass them in the morning, please say good morning to them.
This term, we are benefiting from a number of sports specialists, thanks for funding from Jersey Sport. Y4 are enjoying learning the skills involved in kickboxing.
