Autumn has definitely arrived this week! Despite the change in weather, children have continued to make the most of outdoor learning, with several classes enjoying exciting trips and experiences.
Year 3 visited Rouge Bouillon School as part of their geography learning, where they carried out a traffic survey. Reception enjoyed a walk to Manor Farm and were delighted to be gifted a pumpkin each. Meanwhile, our Year 5 and 6 School Council representatives shared their views and ideas at the island-wide School Council Network meeting.
What a busy and enjoyable week of learning beyond the classroom!
Cross Country
UNCRC Article # 24,29 & 31
On 1st October, our Year 5 and 6 children took part in the annual School's Cross Country. As always, Les Landes performed incredibly well:
Year 5 girls – 3rd out of 26 schools
Year 5 boys – 5th out of 26 schools
Year 5 girls – 5th out of 26 schools
Year 6 boys – 13th out of 26 schools
We also had some excellent individual performances with Lyla, Ava, Macey and Theia all coming within the top 12 in their respective races.
Well done everyone!
House Charities
UNCRC Articles # 12,29 & 31
This year, our House Captains have selected the charities they would like to support. In making their choices, they explored the United Nations Global Goals and considered how the children and staff at Les Landes School can work together to make a meaningful difference to the world around us.
No Crossing Duty
Mr Hill will be unavailable to supervise the crossing before and after school from Wednesday to Friday next week. If your child walks to and from school independently, please take a moment to remind them to cross the road safely.
We would also kindly ask parents and carers to park only in the designated areas. This helps maintain clear visibility and keeps our children safe when crossing the road. Thank you for your support.
Parent Forum
UNCRC Article # 5
We will be restarting our Parent Forum meetings after half-term. These forums are a wonderful opportunity to find out more about what is happening at school, share your thoughts, and help shape the future of our school community.
Our first meeting will take place on Monday 9th November at 6.00pm. To give as many families as possible the chance to attend, we will vary the times of future meetings throughout the year.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Halloween Pumpkin Competition
UNCRC Article# 31
Due to popular demand, we will be holding a Halloween Pumpkin Competition on Monday 2 November. Entry is £1 per pumpkin. Please bring pumpkins to school that morning and place them on the wall by the main playground entrance. Don't forget to write your child's name on the bottom of the pumpkin. Pumpkins can be collected and taken home at the end of the school day.
Wild In Art Trail
We are hoping to take part in Durrell's next Wild in Art Trail in 2027. While we don't yet know which animal will feature, we are hoping that Les Landes School will be able to take part. The project involves children designing and decorating a sculpture, taking part in related learning activities, and supporting conservation fundraising efforts. In previous years, sponsorship has helped cover the cost of our school's sculpture, and we are now looking for potential sponsors for this exciting project. If you have links with a local business or organisation that may be able to help, please get in touch. Thank you

Help keep unwelcome guests at bay !
UNCRC Article # 3 & 24
As we move through the school year, we kindly ask parents and carers to remain vigilant in checking their child’s hair regularly for head lice (nits). Head lice are very common among primary school-aged children and can spread easily through close contact. Regular weekly checks, using a fine-toothed nit comb on wet hair, can help identify and treat any infestations quickly, reducing the chance of them spreading to others. If you do find head lice, please begin treatment promptly and continue to check all family members. Children with longer hair should have their hair tied back anyway for health and safety reasons, but this will also help reduce the likelihood of head-to-head contact and the spread of lice. Thank you for your support in helping keep our school community healthy and nit-free.
