Welcome back to the second half of the Autumn Term. This is always a wonderfully busy period as we begin the countdown to Christmas, and you'll find a list of important dates for your diary below.

It has been fantastic to see the children return to school full of energy and enthusiasm. We started the week with a colourful display of Halloween pumpkins, and I would like to thank you for your support in making this happen. The children's creativity and imagination shone through in every entry. Congratulations to Darcie-Rose and Owen, who were awarded the KS2 and KS1 winners respectively.

Year 6 also enjoyed a fascinating visit to the Jersey War Tunnels on Monday, where they learnt more about what life was like in Jersey during the Occupation. The visit brought their learning to life and gave them a valuable insight into this important period of our island's history.

Anti-Bullying Week 2026

UNCRC Articles #19

Anti-Bullying Week 2026 will take place from 16th-20th November and this year's theme is "Break the Silence." Throughout the week, children will take part in activities and discussions to help them understand the importance of kindness, respect and speaking up if they are worried about themselves or others. To launch the week, we invite all children to wear odd socks on Monday 16th November. This simple and fun activity celebrates individuality and reminds us that everyone is unique and valued. We look forward to working together to promote a positive, inclusive and supportive school community for all.

World Children's Day

UNCRC Articles #12

As a Gold Rights Respecting School, we will be celebrating World Children's Day by exploring the rights of all children as outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). This important day, led by UNICEF, encourages children and adults around the world to recognise, respect and promote children's rights. To mark the occasion, every child will create a decorated handprint linked to a right that is important to them. These handprints will then be combined to form a vibrant whole-school display, symbolising that every child's voice matters and that we all have a role to play in ensuring the rights of others are respected. The finished artwork will celebrate our shared commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and respectful community where every child can thrive.

New Forest Parenting Programme

We will be running the New Forest Parenting Programme this term. The programme will be run by Emma. The New Forest Parenting Programme is an evidence-based programme that runs for five/six weeks to support parents of children who have a diagnosis of ADHD or who have ADHD-type characteristics. It provides information regarding ADHD, gives strategies to support your child to build their skills and manage difficulties. Please email Emma if you are interested in taking part in this, or if you have previously had a conversation with Mrs Webster or Emma about taking part. Please email e.lemonnier@leslandes.sch.je by Wednesday 11th November.

Dates for the course are:

Tuesday 17th November 6.00-7.30

Tuesday 24th November 6.00-7.30

Tuesday 1st December 6.00-7.30

After Christmas

Tuesday 12th January 6.00-7.30

Tuesday 19th January 6.00-7.30

Parent Forum

As shared in our previous newsletter, our first Parent Forum will take place on Monday 9th November at 6.00pm. During the meeting, I will provide an update on the progress we have made with our school priorities, including Reading for Pleasure and Oracy. There will also be an opportunity to discuss plans for the upcoming Christmas Fair and share ideas.

If you would like to attend, please email the school office so that we have an indication of numbers. We look forward to seeing you there.

Important Christmas Dates

The countdown to Christmas is always a festive and busy time at school. To help everyone stay organised, we’ve put together a quick overview of the events and celebrations taking place over the coming weeks.

Fri 4th Dec–2.30pm-4pm – Christmas Fair

Children may be collected from 2.30pm to accompany their parent/carer around the fair. Any children who are not collected will be dismissed as usual at 3.00pm. We will share further details about the activities and stalls available at the fair, along with opportunities for parents and carers to help support the event.

Thur 10th Dec - Christmas Jumper Day

Children are welcome to wear a Christmas jumper in exchange for a £1 donation to Save the Children. Please note that this is not a non-uniform day. Children taking part should wear their Christmas jumper with their usual school uniform, rather than wearing their own clothes.

Fri 11th December-2-2.30pm - Reception and Year 1 Nativity

Carers, parents and grandparents are invited to join us to watch our younger children perform This Way to Bethlehem. This much-loved Christmas production is always a magical event, filled with festive cheer, and is sure to get you into the Christmas spirit.

Mon 14th Dec - 6-7pm - Carol Service - Year 2 to Year 6

Families are invited to join us at St Ouen's Parish Church as we celebrate the Christmas season together. The children will begin preparing for the service from next week, so don't be surprised if Christmas songs start making their way home and become the soundtrack to your car journeys!

Wed 16th Dec - Christmas Party Day

Our Christmas Party Day will follow the same format as in previous years. Children are welcome to come to school in their party clothes and will enjoy party games and a disco during the day. Please note that there will be no hot lunches available on this day. Information about party food and any requests will be sent out nearer the time.

Fri 18th Dec - Non-uniform Day

New Parking Zones

UNCRC Articles #6

I am aware that parking at Les Landes School has long presented challenges for parents, staff and local residents. The parking arrangements trialled last term were unfortunately not successful, and the Department for Infrastructure and Environment has since developed a revised plan.

From Monday 9 November, the designated drop-off area outside the school will be extended by a further 35 metres to the south, ending just before the entrance to the school playing field. A 20-minute disc parking zone will be introduced during term time to help ensure that spaces remain available and that the area is kept clear during busy drop-off and pick-up periods.

If needed, we will send out further information once this is in place.

Just a polite reminder that we ask parents and carers to use the one-way system wherever possible when dropping off and collecting children. These are particularly busy times of the day, and the one-way system helps to keep traffic flowing safely and efficiently for everyone.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Your support makes a real difference in helping to keep everyone safe and ensuring a smoother start and end to the school day.

Christmas Book Club

There is still time to order your Christmas books from our new Scholastic Book Club. Go to https://clubs.scholastic.co.uk/C-DJ31JF97 to browse the latest books and order online. For every £1 you spend on this month’s Book Club, our school will earn 20p in Scholastic Rewards. Once books arrive, they will be held in the school office for collection by parents in case you would like them as Christmas gifts.

Please place your order online by November 20th, 2026.
