Liberation 80

Thank you for supporting our celebration today and helping our children make memories of a special day. The 'Best in Show' entries were amazing. We managed a whole school photo, we had a street party in the playground and a wonderful celebration assembly with wartime songs. Our Liberation 80 artwork will be mounted in the hall, painted by every child in the school.  Particular thanks to Mrs Price, our History co-ordinator, for planning the day.

Best in Show winners:

Liberation Cake:  Seren Y5, Ava Y5 & The Eaton Family

Liberation Recipe: Loic Y3, Phoebe Y6 & The James Family

Liberation Flag: Beau Y5, Anya Y5 & Violet Y6

Liberation Noise-maker : Jesse-Tayt Y4, Darcie-Rose Y2 & The Guyoncourt Family

Liberation Hat: Violet Y4, Fred Y3 & Theia Y4

Sunset Disco Thursday 15th May

All children are invited to our annual Sunset Disco from 5.45-7.00pm. Children can wear their own clothes and can purchase sweets, chocolate, crisps and watermelon, all priced between 50p and £1. (Please check coins as we have quite a bit of money now which the bank won't accept because it is no longer legal tender).  Tickets can be purchased on ParentPay.  We won't print physical tickets, teachers will have attendance lists.  Children should go straight to classes at 5.45pm and can be collected from classes at 7pm.

Fingers crossed the temperature rises a bit next week!

Online safety meetings

UNCRC Article 5,8

Last night's presentation was really informative and well received.  I would like to thank Mr Crossley and the Safeguarding Team at Victoria College for delivering this. This is an issue we have a shared responsibility to address and the content was alarming at times. We have two sessions booked where we will look more closely at data from our school, then move onto the best security practices and the use of social media. It was agreed that we would send the content in advance and that way, our time can be spent asking questions, sharing ideas and finding solutions. The Powerpoints for Monday 12th May are here:

Les Landes School - Online Safety

If you would like to attend the meeting, sign up on ParentPay.

Following that meeting, I will load the Powerpoints for the following meeting on 20th May.

Monday 12th May 6pm Best security practices and technology in the home

Tuesday 20th May 6pm Use of social media, apps and games

Grosnez House Reward

The children have chosen bikes and scooters as their reward.  All children in Grosnez house can bring these on Friday 16th May for an extra playtime.

Grow a sunflower

As a gesture of thanks to the children for supporting our fundraising so far this year, we are giving each child a sunflower seed to grow at home. The children will bring these home today, in an envelope with an instruction poem. Later this term, we will invite families to measure the sunflower and send in a photo so that we can share the success.  Good luck!

Mental Health Awareness Week

Next week is the start of Mental Health Awareness Week and the Mental Health Ambassadors have prepared an interactive poster for classes.  The poster has the picture of a ‘Sparkle Jar’ on and aims to boost mental health. Pupils can write/ draw on the post it notes – something that made them happy/ something they are proud of/ something that made them laugh/ something they are grateful for and someone who makes them smile.

Liberation 80 pins

The Bailiff has arranged for every child to receive a pin to commemorate the anniversary of Liberation, just like the children of 1945 received.  The children were presented with these today.
