Thank you!

As the academic year draws to a close, I would like to thank you all for supporting your children and our school this year. I would  also like to thank the staff, all of whom are driven to secure the best outcomes for every child. Thank you for the notes and gifts of appreciation; these are never expected but they are appreciated by staff. Thank you to the families leaving us this week; the end of an era.

Field access

The playground and field will be open over the holidays.  Please be aware that there is significant building work taking place so there will be scaffolding, vans and lorries driving in and out of the playground.

Parent Forum

Minutes attached:

Please note that following a discussion about children bringing in cakes and sweets for birthdays, School Council has agreed to stop this from September.  There were a number of reasons, outlined in the minutes, and children still have the option of wearing their own clothes on their birthdays.

Parent Reps

Thank you to Parent Reps who have supported communication this year. It makes such a difference and their support is appreciated.  In September, we will be looking for new reps and thought it would be useful to provide a summary of expectations:

Parent reps help bring our school community together by supporting communication, building connections between families, and offering a friendly point of contact for parents. It’s a supportive and voluntary role – not about having all the answers, but about helping families feel informed, included and involved.

Here’s what the role involves:

  • Welcoming new families and helping them settle in.
  • Encouraging a friendly, inclusive atmosphere amongst parents.
  • Sharing occasional messages from the school that might be helpful to other parents.
  • Encouraging respectful, clear communication between families and the school
  • Listening if parents have general questions and pointing them to the appropriate member of staff if needed eg: class teacher, office staff.
  • Reps don’t speak on behalf of others or get involved in individual concerns – those are always best raised directly with staff. They are not expected to attend Parent Forum ‘on behalf’ of the class.
  • Occasionally being asked to share general parent views with school staff, always in a positive and constructive way.
  • Occasionally, reminding parents that if a response to their question can wait until the next working day, that is what should happen.
  • The role should last for one year, with different parents having the opportunity to take on the role.

Just to note: Parent reps aren’t expected to send reminders about calendar dates, trips or events already shared by the school through newsletters or the website. They are also not expected to organise collections or gifts.

Being a parent rep is a great way to support your child’s class and our wider school family. Every bit of help makes a difference! If you would like to put your name forward, please email admin@leslandes.sch.je

Puffins After School Club

We are pleased to be able to support families with this provision, starting 8th September. We have added information to our website.  Here is the link.

Breakfast Club

We have decided to keep Breakfast Club as a before school club without food. This means we don't need to raise the cost in September.  If you no longer require a place in Breakfast Club, please let us know so that we can take a family from the wait list.  We will restart from the first day of term. Thank you.

Concerns over the holidays

The school emails and phone will not be monitored daily during the holiday.

Any safeguarding concerns should be reported using the Children and Families Hub on telephone 01534 519000 or refer to the website. Family support is through this route, too.  https://www.gov.je/caring/childrenandfamilieshub/Pages/ChildrenAndFamiliesHubHomepage.aspx

Additional family support can be found via the Government of Jersey website https://www.gov.je/caring/organisations/pages/parentingsupportservices.aspx

Please note Jersey's Freedom of Information (FOI) Law came into effect on 1st January 2015. For more information, or to submit a request, please visit How to make an FOI request
