Newsletter

Welcome to the Autumn term!

It's been a very successful start to the year.  The building work is almost finished and the school looks spacious and organised.  The children have been impressed with the improvements and the site is now more secure. The main entrance will now be open during the school day, there is no longer a bell to ring.  All visitors can now enter the building and report to the office.

The newsletters will come by email every two weeks, on a Friday.  I will also send the link to Parent Reps, following feedback that this is helpful.  Please use the website calendar to make a note of dates (and please let us know if you notice an event missing).

Meet the Teacher

We are looking forward to seeing you all next Tuesday 9th at 6pm.  The meeting is open to all parents, but we cannot accommodate children. I will share the achievements from last year and the priorities for next year and then the meeting will continue in classrooms, where you can meet your child's class teacher to find out how you can support them this term.  If you have more than one child, we advise attending the class of your oldest child and then collecting the handouts from the other classes.

Parent Forum (sharing again for ease of reference)

Please note that following a discussion about children bringing in cakes and sweets for birthdays, School Council has agreed to stop this from September.  There were a number of reasons, outlined in the minutes, and children still have the option of wearing their own clothes on their birthdays.

Parent Reps

Parent reps help bring our school community together by supporting communication, building connections between families, and offering a friendly point of contact for parents. It’s a supportive and voluntary role – not about having all the answers, but about helping families feel informed, included and involved.

Parent rep roles:

  • Welcoming new families and helping them settle in.
  • Encouraging a friendly, inclusive atmosphere amongst parents.
  • Sharing occasional messages from the school that might be helpful to other parents.
  • Encouraging respectful, clear communication between families and the school
  • Listening if parents have general questions and pointing them to the appropriate member of staff if needed eg: class teacher, office staff.
  • Reps don’t speak on behalf of others or get involved in individual concerns – those are always best raised directly with staff. They are not expected to attend Parent Forum ‘on behalf’ of the class.
  • Occasionally being asked to share general parent views with school staff, always in a positive and constructive way.
  • Occasionally, reminding parents that if a response to their question can wait until the next working day, that is what should happen.
  • The role should last for one year, with different parents having the opportunity to take on the role.

Just to note: Parent reps aren’t expected to send reminders about calendar dates, trips or events already shared by the school through newsletters or the website. They are also not expected to organise collections or gifts.

2025-6 reps are:

Reception - Amanda Robinson Pereira (Julian's mum)

Year 1 - Kate Pearce (Roo's mum)

Year 2 - Jenna Cartwright (Luna's mum)

Year 3 - Hayley Walton (Sophie's mum)

Year 4 - Jo Darwood (Loic's mum)

Year 5 - Dominique Le Cocq (Alby's mum)

Year 6 - Natalie Davies (Robyn's mum)

Phones, social media and surviving the online world

The Department for Children, Education, Young People and Skills (CYPES) have organised an evening for parents to support families in setting healthy boundaries around technology, with practical tips and conversations.  The speaker is Natasha Devon, a writer, speaker and campaigner.  There are two sessions, both in the evening, 16th or 17th September 6-8pm and there is an option to join online. None of us have all the answers, but knowledge will help us to navigate the world we now live in.

Clubs

All school led clubs start on the first full week back, beginning Monday 15th September.  Please sign your child up on ParentPay for choir (Y4,5,6), football (Y5,6) and netball (Y5,6) so that we can send more information next week.

We are partnering with Acorn and Jersey Sport to support an initiative to distribute second hand sports kit for children.  We will have a box in our uniform shed for donations of sports clothing, trainers, football and rugby boots which will be collected regularly by Acorn.
