Reading For Pleasure Event: 6.00pm – 7.00pm, Tuesday 30th September – Jersey Library
As you know, one of our priorities this year is to help children find reading irresistible. As part of Jersey's Festival of Words, there is an opportunity to hear from an expect about how you can help your child:
Why do children choose to read — and why does it matter? Join us for an engaging evening at Jersey Library as we explore the importance of volitional reading and how it can transform learning, literacy, and lives.
Our keynote speaker, Professor Teresa Cremin, will share insights from her pioneering research on reading for pleasure, its role in education, and the profound impact it can have on young people’s development. Professor Cremin is an internationally recognised scholar in literacy education, Co-Director of the Literacy and Social Justice Centre at The Open University, and a leading advocate for the role of reading in fostering creativity, wellbeing, and equity.
Following the keynote, there will be a group discussion on the implications and possibilities for Jersey, before we open the floor to a lively panel discussion. Together, we will consider how to raise awareness, stimulate conversation, and inspire action in support of children’s reading.
Whether you are an educator, parent, policymaker, or simply someone who values the power of reading, this event offers an opportunity to deepen your understanding, connect with others, and support a cause that matters

There is a workshop earlier in the day for school leaders, which I will be attending.
